Scary

If you have arrived at this page by choice, then you have some unanswered questions. Probably you have some unasked questions as well. No attempt will be made to provide you with all of the questions or the answers on this page or in this web site. The topic is too broad and too specific to each home owner’s situation to deal with it in general terms.

Maintenance, insect or decay problems can be difficult to deal with. Often they are difficult to recognize. Rather than avoiding these issues, I’m telling you that they are issues. Ones that are most often ignored or skipped over lightly by builders, designers, and particularly by salesmen.

My professional experience, and that of Brent Munroe, has been extensive in these areas. Through our restoration practices, we have come to the realization that many log home owners do discover that their home of dreams is one in which they are living with decay causing fungi, wood boring insects and unforeseen gremlins. Rather than scare you, I will tell you straight out that problems can be avoided or successfully dealt with. Routine maintenance can be very simple and inexpensive, performed by yourself in most cases.
A home that is designed and built using the guidelines that excessive moisture is to be avoided and long term maintenance is to be simplified, will be a home that is free from most problems forever.
Do yourself a favor. Take five minutes and read our Unique Methods page to learn more about the one thing that makes our homes stand out from the rest. You won’t regret it. You don’t want to build a log home that ends up like the one in the picture above.
